Hey Everyone!

So, here's a quick recap of everything that we talked about at the March meeting.

The blood drive was held last Friday, March13th 2009 at Estabrook Rec Center. We did alright, as far as pints collected. I will keep you posted as far as our official total. There is just one more blood drive left this year. It will be held at Estabrook in Mid-Late May. Since this is our last blood drive this year and the seniors' last ever, we would like to go out with a bang and make this our biggest blood drive ever. If you would like to help out with the planning and prep in the next month and a half, let me (Joelle) know.

The soup kitchen was held last Thursday, March 12th at the United Methodist Church on Pearl Rd. If you missed it, that's okay. It'll come back around next month.

The book drive has been extended into March, since it's been such a great success in February. We are trying to spread the word around the school that they can get 2 hours of community service, just for bringing in 5 books. So, let everyone know and if you still have some books lying around your house, bring those in too! We will be delivering our collected books to MetroHealth Hospital on W.25th on Friday March 27th. If you would like to help deliver the books, let me know. Candi C., Hayley T., and Kourtnie M. are the only people who have so far signed up to deliver.

We are trying something new and fun this month, the peace awareness ribbons. We are selling them for $2 and that will buy you a ribbon to wear to promote peace and harmony and such in the school and a special treat, to be announced. Again, we will keep you posted as we are at liberty to disclose more information. This project benefits the senior class, as far as fundraising, so, it counts as your community service for the month.

The good standing list is back!  This list does not include those who have been put on probation this month and have not submitted their donation, have been withdrawn from NHS, took no action following their January, February, or December probations, or have not retained a cumulative 3.5 GPA. Last week, I delivered probation letters to every member who was not listed here and did not talk to me to correct the issue. Please follow the directions listed on the probation letter to correct your status, or risk withdrawal. Please note that you have been given a limited amount of time to respond, and should do so in a timely manner. Remember, I don't want to probate you and I don't want to have to kick you out of NHS; I only hope that you can maintain the standards that we ask of our members and if you cannot do so, you can no longer be a member.

We have a dance-a-thon to benefit the Mothers Against Drunk Driving tentatively planned for April 17th. This project is still in development so, details will be discussed at a later date.

Induction/Senior Farewell are right around the corner! Induction of new members will be held on Friday April 3, 2009 at 5:30PM in the Rhodes auditorioum. Each member is required to attend. Seniors are required, if they plan to be part of the special senior farewell presentation, to submit the following:

    4 pictures

        Baby

        Elementary School

       Junior High

        Free Choice

    Senior Farewell Slip

All of this information has been emailed to you but, if you need to download the senior farewell slip again, it can be found in the downloads section of this site. Betcha didn't know that exists!  All senior farewell slips are due March 16th by midnight and if you do not have them in, you will not be included in the presentation. Email them to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Any questions or angry mobs can be directed at Jameson D. or Fay C., or Fameson Daosacutan.

We are trying to branch out this month by doing something fun and new, a service event with the Cleveland International Film Festival on Friday March 27th at 5:45 to 10PM at Tower City Cinemas. We are not sure exactly what will be doing but, I can assume it will be something like ushering and concessions, both tasks Im sure our highly capable and ever-friendly members can handle. Volunteers get free parking, a free t-shirt, and free popcorn and soda during your shift. We have 21 people signed up, and unfortunately cannot take anymore. This event requrires a volunteer form which has also been emailed to you (lots) but can be found in Downloads. Please fill this out by Wednesday March 18th, 2009 or your name will be taken off the list of expected volunteers. Please do not assume you can just show up at this event and expect to work for us. It requires the form and premade name tags and all that so, sorry. Don't come; that's embarrassing :)

So, there are/were six total service events this month:

    Peace Ribbon Wrapping

        Monday March 16th, 2009

    Peace Ribbon Sales

        TBA

     Soup Kitchen

        Thursday March 12th 2009

        United Methodist Church of Cleveland

     Book Drive Collections

        TBA, homerooms

    Book Drive Donations Delivery

        Friday March 27th 2009

MetroHealth Hospital Kids Korner @ Noon

    Cleveland INternational Film Festival

        Friday March 27th

Tower City Cinemas, downtown at 5:45 to 10PM

Thank you everyone who put in all that time for the past three weeks for BazBiz! We all worked really hard and apparently, it payed off! Check out these really great emails we recieved from vendors and customers!

I cannot thank you guys enough for all of your help this weekend. It was invaluable as well as delicious, and it was also nice to have a young, fresh, vibe to go along with the already stellar show...it added a whole new element.
All of the "kids" (i'm old, well, older than ALL of them...sigh) were SO respetful and kind,it was quite refreshing, so nice to see young people doing something for others, while at the same time trying to raise awareness of their own interests and goals.
The food was KILLER. I induldged in way too many grilled cheese sandwiches, but was SO happy to see that they had a vegetarian option...i otherwise, would have scrounged on a diet of cheetos all weekend! So pleased to have not had to do that!
I also have to add this...I was over getting a few cup of coffee, and tried,as a former waitress who can appriciate friendly service and hard work,to tip the boys directly as well as putting some in the till for the school...and they MOST GRACIOUSLY REFUSED...and let me tell you...I TRIED HARD to get them to take my money...they insisted that it should all go in the bucket! I LOVED it! How upstanding and responsible...they were heartwarming....
So this is my grand THANK YOU!!!! to all of the wonderful, inspiring young folks who hepled us all out so much this weekend...you guys ROCK!!!
Good luck in all your pursuits...
Big Love-

was a vendor at the Bazaar over the weekend and I wanted to let you know how refreshing it was to see students eager to help and work hard. Their work ethic was excellent and a testimony to other young people that hard work pays off. They were quick to respond to requests and enthusiastic to help. It is so nice to have extra help at these shows, particularly if you are going solo as is the case so often. Thank you again for having delicious food and drinks, and eager students to help.

Hi there! I got your email address from Shannon and I just wanted to say a huge thank you to all the students who came and helped out this weekend! It was so nice having food right there (even delivered to our tables!) so we didn't have to go out or go hungry! They were so much fun...I saw some fantastic interaction with some of the shoppers...no one should have that much fun buying coffee! :-) I know you guys had to have been exhausted by the end, but it never showed for a second...everyone was upbeat and cheerful no matter how long or how hard they worked! Thank you again for all you have done! Happy Holidays!

Hello,
We wanted to thank you ever so much for keeping us well fed over the weekend. You all did such an awesome job, and should be really proud of yourselves. We hope you guys had fun doing it too, and look forward to more homemade goodies next year!

Thank you again,
The Strychnine Sisters
 Hello,

I just wanted to thank you and all the students who were at the Bazaar Bizarre show last weekend. You guys were really helpful, and your soups were delicious!

You guys made the event smooth and fun!

Just wanted to drop a line to extend my thanks for all the hard work that the National Honors Society members put forth over the past Bazaar Bizarre weekend.  The food was fabulous and fresh and the kids couldn't have been more friendly and helpful!  I was impressed by the selection of food that was offered, my personal favorite being the deliciously sinful, homemade chocolates!  The soup was amazing and I loved the offer to add a slice of tomato to my grilled cheese sandwich: just like mom used to make!  You could tell that the group worked extremely hard and I just wanted to let you know that it didn't go unnoticed.  Being a vendor, it is often times hard to leave my booth to get lunch, however, the kids eliminated this problem by regularly walking around and offering delicious fare for all meals (the fresh, hot pizza was perfect!).  Thank you so much for making my weekend easier and more delicious!  The kids are amazing and they should know that...one day soon all their hard-work will pay off!  I hope to see you next year!  Have a wonderful holiday!

I was one of the vendors at this past weekend's Bazaar Bizarre.

I wanted to say THANK YOU to you and your Honor Society students for
being so wonderful this weekend!  Because I spent a lot of time at my
booth alone, I really appreciate the students' service and
consideration in delivering food to my booth.  They were all so
friendly and pleasant to be around!  It was very kind of the students
to devote nearly an entire weekend (and days and weeks beforehand!) to
volunteering, and again I am very thankful for time that these
students, along with parents, teachers, and advisors, spent helping to
make this event a success!

Take care and Happy Holidays!

Thank you so much to all of the high school students who helped out at Bazaar Bizarre last weekend. They were all so friendly and helpful, and it was nice to have such affordable food on the premises. I hope you all come back next year!

I just wanted to send a quick 'thank you' your way for all the help that the Rhodes National Honor Society provided us with at Bazaar Bizarre this past weekend. As a vendor flying solo for most of the weekend- I was so happy with all the help that your students offered. Food delivery service to the individual tables with a provided menu- so nice!

All of the students were beyond friendly, very helpful, and the food was great- I couldn't help but to buy things.

Both of my parents are Rhodes Alumni- so even more reason to support your students and school.

Thanks again for such a successful weekend!

Happy Holidays,

Susan Base

I was a vendor at the Bazaar Bizarre this weekend and really appreciated the generous support from the NHS students who helped out throughout the event.  They were polite, respectful, and a valuable part of the event.  Things woud not have run so smoothly without their dedication and hard work all weekend, not to mention all the work done ahead of time I'm sure.

Thanks again, and Happy Holidays!

Hello,

I’m a vendor from the event, www.squidfire.com, that traveled to Cleveland all the way from Baltimore, MD. I was thoroughly impressed with the students and the quality of the food they made available. The kids were all very kind and professional.

Thank you for allowing them to help.

JBR
